Akhilesh Yadav Takes Dig at UP Govt Over NITI Aayog’s Poverty Index

The former UP CM tweeted that the state was among the bottom three states in NITI Aayog’s Multidimensional Poverty Index under the BJP rule.

Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state over the NITI Aayog report. The SP chief tweeted from his official Twitter handle on Monday and said that UP was among the bottom three states in NITI Aayog’s multidimensional poverty index under the BJP rule.

“In NITI Aayog’s first Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) under the BJP rule, UP is among the three poorest states in the country; UP ranks third in the category of highest malnutrition rate and child and adolescent mortality, UP is in the worst condition in the whole country. These are the badges of failure of the BJP government,” Akhilesh Yadav tweeted on Monday.

According to media reports, Dadra and Nagar Haveli has the highest poverty among the Union Territories, in which 27.36 percent people are poor. The poor are 12.58% in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and 4.79% in Delhi. Bihar has the highest number of people suffering from malnutrition, followed by Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Deprived of maternal health, not attending school, without cooking fuel and electricity, Bihar is also the worst in terms of population.

According to media reports, Uttar Pradesh has the worst performance in the child and adolescent mortality rate category. In this case, the number of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh comes after this. Jharkhand ranks worst in terms of population deprived of sanitation. NITI Aayog in its first MPI report has said that Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh are among the poorest states in the country.
