Akali Dal to present resolution against 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Tytler’s appointment in DPCC

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday hit out at the Congress for appointing Jagdish Tytler as one of the permanent invitees to the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC). Tytler is one of the main accused in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Addressing a press conference in Ludhiana, Badal said, “The Akali Dal will table a resolution in the upcoming Punjab Assembly session on November 8, calling for the arrest of Jagdish Tytler and other Congressmen responsible for the 1984 Sikh genocide and against the Gandhi family. Action will be sought, at whose behest it was driven.” (ANI)

This move of Delhi is causing political ruckus in Punjab as elections are approaching. Tytler’s appointment as a permanent member of the DPCC was criticized not only by the Akali Dal but also by the BJP.

“Sidhu had confessed that he had barely survived the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and now he feels proud to be the leader of the Congress?” BJP national secretary Tarun Chugh told PTI.

Continuing his attack on the Congress, the Akali Dal chief said, “Congress is supporting the butchers instead of punishing them. Tytler, one of the accused in those riots, should be punished immediately.”

“The party should clarify the motive behind the appointment of Tytler as one of the 37 permanent invitees of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee. I urge all Sikhs to boycott the Congress,” he said.

Sonia Gandhi appointed Tytler as one of 37 permanent invitees to the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee on 28 October.
