Ajay Devgn and Tabu to start shooting for Drishyam 2 from December

Mohanlal starrer Drishyam, which released in 2013, was one of the successful films of the Malayalam film industry. Two years later, the film was remade in Hindi with Ajay Devgn and Tabu in lead roles, which also became a huge success. Eight years later, the Malayalam film’s sequel, Drishyam 2, skipped the theatrical release and hit the web on Amazon Prime Video earlier this year. The sequel was a smash hit, with many critics and audiences finding the film better than the first part.

A few months later, Panorama Studios International producer Kumar Mangat Pathak, who also produced the Hindi version of the first part, announced that he had got the rights for Drishyam 2. It is now learned that Kumar Mangat Pathak’s son Abhishek Pathak, who previously directed Ujda Chaman, will direct the sequel.

A source reveals, “The Hindi remake was directed by Nishikant Kamat, who unfortunately passed away last year. Abhishek decided that he would direct the sequel which is almost six years apart from the events of the first film. The script is currently being written and just like the original film, the sequel will also undergo some changes keeping in mind the sensibilities of the Hindi audience. Along with Devgn and Tabu, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav and most of the supporting cast will continue to reprise roles in the sequel.

Drishyam 2 is expected to go on floors by December. “Ajay Devgn is currently busy shooting for his OTT debut Rudra: The Age of Darkness. He will then travel to Moscow next month to shoot some important sequences for his directorial venture “May Day”. He will later shoot for Boney Kapoor’s Maidan before diving into Drishyam 2 in December. Also, Tabu, currently shooting for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, will soon start working on Kutty, which marks the directorial debut of Akash Bhardwaj, son of filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj.”
