The luggage of Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Harmeet Desai were lost by the airlines as the table tennis stars were on their way to camp ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Indian table tennis players Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Harmeet Desai are facing major problems at the Commonwealth Games preparation camp in Portugal as airlines lost their luggage.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Sathiyan said Air France had lost his luggage and had not found him three days after his arrival in Portugal.

“Extremely disappointed with the services of @airfrance @AirFranceFR, @AirFranceIN. It’s been 3 days since we arrived in Portugal for CWG Preparatory Camp, and yet, me and my teammate @HarmeetDesai have not received our luggage,” wrote Sathiyan in his tweet.

The Indian Olympian, who was part of the Indian table tennis team that won the Commonwealth Games gold medal, said, “It involved all the important sports equipment and it was disappointing that there was no proper response to the condition of the goods and no compensation was received.” In 2018, Sathiyan also won a silver medal in men’s doubles with Sharath Kamal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

The airlines responded to his tweet with the message that baggage delivery times have been affected “due to difficulties due to poor operating conditions at several airports around the world”.

The table tennis team, which also includes national champion Sharath Kamal, took off from Air France on July 3 for a camp in Porto, during which Indians would train with the Portuguese national team.
