Air India ‘peeing’ incident: Delhi Police summons flight cabin crew, pilot

The Delhi Police has invited the pilot and other crew members to participate in the probe in connection with the incident of a man urinating on a female co-passenger on a New York-Delhi Air India flight. According to the lawyers of accused Shankar Mishra, a deal was struck and the elderly woman got compensation.

“The police will establish the complete timeline of the incident and the statements of the flight crew will be recorded,” said a source with knowledge of the matter.

According to the statement issued by Mishra’s lawyers, Ishani Sharma and Akshat Bajpai, WhatsApp messages between the accused and the woman clearly show that the accused had got the clothes and bags cleaned on November 28 and they were delivered on November 30.

“The woman’s persistent complaint was only with regard to adequate compensation being paid by the airline, for which she complained later on December 20, 2022,” the statement said.

According to the statement, Mishra paid the compensation between the two parties on Paytm on November 28, but the woman’s daughter returned the money on December 19.

It said, “The accused has full faith in the judicial system of the country and will cooperate with the investigation process.” An elderly woman passenger on an Air India flight who was urinated on by a man asked the crew to arrest her from the airport police and not bring her to their side.

“I told them (the crew members) that I wanted the man to be arrested immediately by the airport police. They asked me if I would like to speak to the ground staff, and I told them that I would certainly Will do,” the co-passenger FIR states that a man named Shankar Mishra urinated in an Air India flight coming from New York to Delhi.

The incident took place on November 26, 2022 and an FIR was registered at the Indira Gandhi Airport police station on January 4.

Mishra is the vice president of the India chapter of Wells Fargo, an American multinational financial services company headquartered in California. Meanwhile, several teams were on the lookout for Mishra, a Mumbai resident and a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.

Sources said that Mishra is constantly changing his hideout and evading arrest. On Thursday, the police had written to the concerned authorities, demanding issuance of a look out circular against Mishra.

Delhi Police booked Mishra under sections 510 (mischief in public by drunken person), 509 (outraging the modesty of a woman), 294 (sings, recites any obscene song, ballad, or words in or near any public place) has or utters) a case has been registered under place), 354 (with intent to outrage the modesty) of the Indian Penal Code as well as a section of the Aircraft Rules Act.
