Air India Passenger Onboard Goa-Delhi Flight Physically Assaults Cabin Crew Member, Detained

A male passenger on board an Air India flight from Goa on Monday manhandled a crew member and the unruly passenger was handed over to security personnel at the Delhi airport after landing, according to the airline. In the recent months, there have been several incidents of unruly behavior of passengers on board and the latest incident happened on flight AI882 from Goa to Delhi. Further details about the incident were not immediately known.

“The said passenger verbally abused the crew members and then physically assaulted one of them. On landing at Delhi airport, the passenger continued with the unprovoked, aggressive behavior and was handed over to the security personnel. We Have also reported the incident to the regulator,” an Air India spokesperson said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The safety of our crew and passengers is of utmost importance to us and we strongly condemn this unruly behavior of the passenger. We will provide all possible assistance to the affected crew members,” the spokesperson said.

Earlier this month, Air India banned a man from flying for two years for causing bodily harm to two female cabin crew members on board a Delhi-London flight on April 10. Life-threatening behavior such as damage to aircraft navigation systems, physical violence such as suffocation, and murderous assault are considered Level 3. Depending on the level of unruly behaviour, an internal committee constituted by the airline concerned may decide the period for which an unruly passenger may be banned from flying.
