Aiims Rajkot Gearing Up To Cater To Saurashtra Region’s Good Health | Rajkot News – Times of India

Rajkot: Work on the most ambitious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) project in Rajkot is progressing satisfactorily. While the authorities have started the OPD (outdoor patient department) since December 31, last year, a full-fledged hospital operation is expected to begin by August 2023. However, the district authority is working hard to get the IPD (in-patients department) started by March 2023.
Altogether 25 buildings including the main building of the hospital are coming up on 201 acres of land in the revenue areas of Khanderi and Para Pipaliya villages on Jamnagar road of Rajkot at an estimated cost of Rs 1,195 crore.
Even though the OPD has started, it is receiving a very dull response at present as the hospital is located quite far away from the city. According to sources, only around 100 patients come to the hospital for OPD service daily. The district authority is in talks with Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) to start bus service to the hospital from major areas of the city to help facilitate patients reach the premises.
Talking to TOI, district collector Arun Mahesh Babu said, “After city bus service commences, more patients will come to the hospital. We are also going to start online OPD and telemedicine services very soon so that more patients get the benefit of experts.”
According to the district authority, AIIMS Rajkot has appointed a sufficient number of faculty, senior and junior residents, nurses, paramedical staff, and hospital support staff to take care of all aspects of the patients.
The hospital has five floors of which, the radiotherapy facility will be in the basement, while the doctors’ room, laboratory consultant room, pharmacy store will be on the ground floor. The ICU, various wards, consultant room, and the observation room operation theater will be on the first floor. The lecturers’ room, various wards, operation theater will be on the second floor, while the wards and doctors’ rooms will be on the third, fourth, and fifth floors.
