The AIIMS administration has launched an inquiry into allegations that a 75-year-old woman died due to delay in treatment at the hospital’s emergency.

The AIIMS administration has launched an inquiry into allegations that a 75-year-old woman died due to delay in treatment at the hospital’s emergency.

The family of the deceased has alleged that they had to go through the registration formalities in a time span of about five-six hours, apparently to hide the fact that the woman was waiting in an emergency for such a long time for treatment.

According to him, the patient Badamo Devi, a resident of Neb Sarai here, was taken to the emergency department of AIIMS at 11.30 pm on Wednesday and the registration slip was given to her son at around 12.30 pm.

“However, we were turned away on an emergency basis citing non-availability of beds,” Vijay Kumar, the woman’s son, told PTI. We were asked to shift the patient to some other hospital.

Due to late night, the relatives kept waiting outside the emergency of AIIMS and kept pleading for admission.

As the woman’s condition worsened at around 4.30 am and the family sought treatment, she was taken to the emergency, where the family was again asked to bring the registration slip.

Vijay said, “When I went back after getting the slip for the second time, I found that my mother had passed away.”

The son claimed that had his mother been treated on time, she would have survived. “It is sheer negligence on the part of such a premier hospital,” he added.

An official said that the AIIMS administration has started a probe and action will be taken against those found guilty.
