Tuticorin: Around 80 people claiming to be AIADMK cadres and office bearers met here vilathikulam In Tuticorin on Sunday, 11 resolutions were passed in favor of the expelled General Secretary VK Sasikala. The meeting chaired by MK Velavan, former central secretary of the party and joint secretary of district Amma Pervai, unanimously said that Sasikala should lead the party and strengthen it.
The meeting created a stir in the party which has passed a resolution at the district level that cadres and office bearers should abstain from joining Sasikala or face expulsion from AIADMK.
Kovilpatti MLA and AIADMK Tuticorin North District Secretary Kadambur C Raju Addressing a press briefing in this regard on Monday, calling the meeting and proposals invalid.
The resolutions passed in Sunday’s meeting include condemning all resolutions passed against Sasikala in party meetings at the headquarters and district level. He said that all those resolutions were not a reflection of the district, union and grassroot level functionaries and were passed without getting their views.
Stating that Sasikala had only tried to unite the party and strengthen it in her phone conversations with the cadre, she strongly condemned the dictatorial removal of those people from the party. He also appealed to Sasikala to visit the districts post the COVID-19 lockdown and hold talks with party functionaries and cadres to strengthen the party.
He also said: selfish motives of Edappadi K Palaniswami And O Panneerselvam turned the party into opposition by dethroning the party against the interests of the cadre.
He also condemned those who weakened the AIADMK and made the DMK strong enough to win the assembly elections and form the government.
Other resolutions include condemning former ministers. D JayakumarNatham Viswanathan, CV Shanmugam and KP Munusamy for their remarks against Sasikala and slammed the district office-bearers, who are allegedly encouraging district, union and panchayat level elected representatives from the party to join the DMK.
Responding to the proposals, former minister Kadambur Raju said in his press briefing on Monday that but for Velavan, no other participant in the meeting on Sunday is associated with the AIADMK. While others have either moved away from the party or been removed for their anti-party activities, Velavan will be removed from the party, he said.
Raju said they were not bothered that Sasikala was planning to travel across the state and meet the cadre. “But it should not be done under the banner of AIADMK. According to him, the visit of the expelled leader and efforts to regain his position in the AIADMK will hardly affect the party as ammk.
The former minister also accused Sasikala of weakening the AIADMK and strengthening the DMK by visiting temples in the assembly constituencies where the AMMK had fielded candidates.
Vilathikulam police registered a case against 80 people who participated in Sunday’s meeting for violating lockdown restrictions under sections 143, 269 and 270 of the Indian Penal Code and section 2 of the Epidemic Diseases Act.
