AIADMK cites Ambedkar to protest Tamil Nadu government’s stand on ‘central government’

Two weeks after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said his government would continue to refer to the central government as the ‘central government’, the AIADMK has raised its voice against the ruling government in the state.

Party coordinator O Panneerselvam slammed the state government and said it was not fair use, and should have the words ‘Government of India’ instead.

Panneerselvam said in a statement: “According to BR Ambedkar, the union referred to India consisting of various states and not the Government of India. Therefore, union of states means that it is a union of different states.” He said DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi had also called the Center the central government when his party was in power and passed various resolutions in the state assembly.

However, MK Stalin, in his assembly speech on June 24, said that his party had suggested this in its election manifesto only in 1957. “We have used it and we will continue to use it,” Stalin said in his speech.

The BJP unit in Tamil Nadu had earlier targeted MK Stalin and said that the DMK has a “hidden agenda” by calling the central government the central government.
