Undergraduate medical aspirants across the country expressed their concern over the paucity of time to prepare for the NEET UG exam scheduled on May 7.

National Testing Agency (NTA) is all set to conduct the exam National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2023 exam on Sunday, May 7th. With only three days left for the exam, many undergraduate medical aspirants across the country are still demanding the postponement of the entrance exam. A group of NEET aspirants has also started a petition on Change.org, demanding the postponement of the medical exam. In the petition, the students had raised concerns regarding the paucity of time to prepare for NEET UG. The petition has reportedly been signed by over 7,000 candidates.

“We understand that the government is trying to bring back the pre-pandemic educational schedule, but no harm will be done by postponing NEET by just 15 days,” the plea said. Further in the petition, the medical aspirants have given some reasons as to why the concerned authorities should consider postponing the exam.

The petition has mentioned the reasons for the medical examination clashing with other board examinations. Jammu Board had conducted Geography exam on 3rd May, Punjab Board is currently conducting practical exam, NIOS Board will be conducting exam on 6th May and 8th May. With so many exams around the NEET UG 2023 exam, students are requesting a minimum of 15 marks. Day to prepare for the test.

Apart from clashing with other exams, the candidates feel that the NTA should have released the city information slips much earlier so that they could make their travel arrangements. Students who are currently appearing for board exams will not have much time to prepare for medical tests or even plan travel properly. Medical aspirants said that these disturbances are definitely hampering the preparation of the students this year.

Some candidates are planning to approach the Bombay High Court regarding this matter. For several weeks now, medical aspirants of NEET UG 2023 have been running a social media campaign, urging the Center to postpone the exam. Students are also using hashtags on social media including #postponeNEETUG2023 and #NEETUG2023POSTPONE to raise their demands.

On the other hand, NTA has refused to postpone the entrance exam saying that postponing the medical exam date will disturb the academic cycle. So, as per the schedule, the exam will be held on May 7 from 2:00 PM to 5:20 PM.
