Ahead of MCD elections, Delhi BJP has promised to arrange free pilgrimage every month

Ahead of the MCD elections early next year, the Delhi BJP has promised to send people to Hindu pilgrimage sites in the city. Delhi BJP general secretary (organisation) Siddharth had said on Sunday that party workers in each mandal (ward) would make arrangements for free pilgrimage every month.

Making the announcement, he flagged off a bus of pilgrims organized by Mandawali Ward President Kailash Yadav. Alleging discrimination in a similar initiative of the AAP government launched in March, Siddharth said, “The BJP is committed to sending people of the state (Delhi) to visit Hindu pilgrimage sites.”

A senior Delhi BJP leader said that the party has directed the BJP councilors in the MCD to organize free pilgrimages.

In March, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced a free pilgrimage facility for senior citizens of Delhi to the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

The AAP government already has a “Mukhyamantri Teerth Yatra Yojana” which allows senior citizens of Delhi to undertake free pilgrimage. All expenses related to travel, food and accommodation are borne by the Delhi Government.

In the last MCD elections in Delhi, the BJP registered a landslide victory, returning to power in all three corporations, winning a total of 181 out of 272 wards.

The party’s nearest rival, AAP managed to win only 49, while Congress won 31 wards in the elections.
