Parliament Winter Session News: The Congress and the Trinamool Congress held separate protests outside Parliament on the first day of the winter session to corner the government on various issues, including agricultural laws. While the Congress along with other opposition parties tried to present a united front on the three agrarian laws, the Trinamool signaled a separate protest that it wants the tag of a major opposition party to itself.

The Trinamool Congress on Saturday said it was not interested in coordinating with the Congress during the upcoming winter session of Parliament, but said it would cooperate with other opposition camps on various issues relating to the interests of the people.

The TMC’s rebuttal to the Congress came after Kharge, the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, said that the oldest party would coordinate with all opposition camps, including the TMC, during the winter session.

Congress MPs led by party president Sonia Gandhi and former president Rahul Gandhi protested in the Parliament premises on the issue of agricultural laws. Earlier, the Congress President addressed the MPs of both the Houses at the Congress Parliamentary Party office. The party leaders then marched towards the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the premises and raised slogans against the central government and the prime minister. Congress MPs held a banner which read, “We demand repeal of black agricultural laws”.

Trinamool Congress MPs also protested at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, demanding discussion on the Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021. “TMC wanted to discuss the agriculture law repeal bill but the government is afraid to discuss the conditions of the farmers. The government is not giving opposition.” Opportunity to speak on behalf of farmers,” TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee said.
