Agra man files nomination for 94th election of his life

The 75-year-old former revenue employee is all set to contest his 94th election as he bought his nomination papers for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on Friday.

Hasanram Ambedkar, a former clerk in the revenue department, has already contested since 1985 and lost 93 elections, the year he entered the electoral fray for the first time.

Ambedkar told PTI that he had left the job of Amin in the district administration in 1985 after he was promised a ticket from the Fatehpur Sikri seat.

But when the time came, the party refused to honor the end of the deal and instead mocked them, he said.

As soon as I quit my job, the party denied me ticket and mocked me saying that I would not get a single vote in the election.

He said, “After that I decided to contest elections independently to send him a message. I contested my first election from Fatehpur Sikri to the state assembly in the year 1985, he proudly said that he came third .

“And since then I have been fighting every election knowing that I will lose. I have fought 93 elections and lost.”

When asked about his name, he said that he is India’s first law minister and a follower of Dalit icon BR Ambedkar.

He said that he was actively associated with the Backward and Minority Community Employees Federation (BAMCEF) from 1977 to 1985.

Ambedkar said that he has contested elections for the Gram Pradhan, State Legislative Assembly, Gram Panchayat, MLC and Lok Sabha, and once went to the extent of applying for the post of President of India, but was rejected.

His determination to win despite losing 100 percent of the times earned him the name ‘Dhartipakkad’ in the area, which is used by the locals to describe one’s stubbornness.

“This year, I bought nomination papers for Agra Rural and Kheragarh constituencies. I will fight till the 100th election even if I lose.”

Ambedkar said he meets people personally and appeals to them to vote, and even sends postcards to those living in remote areas.

A resident of Nagla Dulhe in Khedagarh tehsil said that he is a farmer and also works under the government’s MNREGA scheme.
