Despite being from a family of doctors, the preparation path for Nikhar was different. This year the pandemic had prompted the National Testing Agency (NTA) to change the exam pattern for NEET 2021. Also, Nikhar’s dream college – AIIMS – used to have a separate entrance exam two years back. Now, AIIMS also enrolls students through NEET scores. The 18-year-old took these changes as challenges and tweaked his preparation accordingly.

“Since NEET is a time-restricted exam, I had decided that for the optional questions, if I knew the answer to the top question, I would not waste time reading the second option,” said Nikhar, who asked only one question. found it wrong. Examination. c “There are concepts in biology and physics that one can understand and take any question, but with chemistry, one has to learn and memorize a lot. I found that disturbing,” They said.

Nikhar also believes that not having a separate exam for AIIMS admission worked in his favor as that exam used to have “unexpected questions”. He has been preparing for NEET for almost 2.5 years with Aakash Institute, Agra. While Nikhar enrolled in the classroom programme. Due to the pandemic, preparations went online. “Initially, I was happy to have more time at my disposal, but eventually it started to get monotonous. To keep me motivated, I kept changing the daily routine, maintaining a 12 to 12 routine. 15 hours of study every day ,” They said.

During the pandemic, Nikhar’s father had to stay in the hospital for a few months while serving patients. Nikhar said it inspired her to take medicine instead of scaring her. “A lot can be done to improve the condition of doctors in India. However, it is still a rewarding profession as it is helpful to others and has a purpose. I was inspired to see my father working especially during the pandemic,” he said.

Advising his colleagues, the soon-to-be doctor said, “NCERT is the key. One does not need to study from too many sources or attempt too many exams. Though it is primitive, one must be thorough with books and NCERT basics. I also mentioned national level exams by Aakash and the modules were given to me by my teachers.”

“While preparing, if one thinks about rank and result, then he/she only strays from studies. One needs to fall in love with the process and subjects to stay focused for so long,” said Nikhar.
