Agni-Prime: Nuclear Capable Missile Successfully Tested Off Odisha Coast

India successfully test-fired a new Agni series missile Agni-Prime at 10:55 am off the coast of Odisha on Monday. It was successfully test fired from Launchpad No-4 of Chandipur.

Government sources said the new nuclear-capable missile is made entirely of composite materials and was a textbook launch.

Various telemetry and radar stations located on the east coast tracked and monitored the missile. DRDO officials said it has followed the textbook trajectory, accomplishing all the mission objectives with a high degree of accuracy.

Agni-Prime is a short-range ballistic missile. It is a new generation upgraded version of Agni class missiles. It is a canistered missile with a range of 1,000 to 2,000 km.

The surface-to-surface missile can carry a payload of about 1,000 kg or so of nuclear warheads. The double stage missile is lighter and smoother than its predecessor Agni-I.
