Age just a number: 80-year-old earns PhD from Balochistan University – World Latest News Headlines

An 80-year-old man from Balochistan has completed his PhD in Political Science at Balochistan University, proving that age is just a number if one is determined to achieve their dreams.

Haibatullah Halimi, a resident of Mastung, was like any other doctoral recipient at the university’s convocation held last week – until his name was called and chief guest Balochistan Governor Zahoor Ahmad Agha withdrew his admiration for the unusual. Advancing education defying age barriers.

The governor hugged the man – who walks with a stick and comes on stage with the support of two men – before conferring the degree on him.

A few years after retiring as superintendent of police in 2005, after 40 years of service, Halimi enrolled at the university and earned an MPhil in 2011. Deciding that he was not done yet, he earned his PhD in 2019, but a year later the convocation was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Haibatullah Haleimi continued to pursue his goal even though he was old. We did not expect him to complete his PhD, but he persevered till the end and was successful in his mission.

They told don.com that Halimi was the oldest student in the political science department, and she served as a role model for other students at the university.
