A day after the death of a young man in Cuttack due to the cutting of a kite string, another incident has come to the fore in Puri. A motorcyclist was seriously injured after his neck got stuck in a kite string in Puri on Monday.
The victim has been identified as Bhanjabihari Patra of Kundhaibenta Sahi, who is undergoing treatment at the Puri District Headquarters Hospital. Meanwhile, the Cuttack Police has arrested an illegal string trader from Pirabazar in Cuttack. The Cuttack Municipal Corporation and the police conducted raids at different places in the city by running a special campaign.
According to sources, Patra was speeding towards Baddanda to get medicine for his ailing son when a kite string got stuck in his neck at Malizaga near Medical Square, injuring him seriously. Another bike rider took him to the hospital with the help of a policeman. He was admitted to the district headquarters hospital. The district administration has directed the municipal corporation to investigate the matter.
Puri Collector Samarth Verma said, “We have appealed to the district police to increase the enforcement activities on the incident to the city authority.”
“It is a heart-wrenching incident. We appealed to the district administration to take strict action and ban the illegal sale of kite strings,” said Bharat Das, a resident of the city.
The police have seized a large consignment of kites by raiding in Jagatpur, Purighat and Mangalbagh areas. Police have detained seven people selling banned wire in the city. The Cuttack Municipal Corporation has also started a special campaign against the illegal sale of kite strings.
Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh said, “We have launched a special drive against manufacturers and illegal sale of kite strings in the city. Strict action will be taken against the traders engaged in the manufacture and sale of Manjha.
Zone-1 ACP Amarendra Panda said, “An FIR has been registered at Jagatpur police station under Negligence and Negligence Act. A trader from Peera Bazar area has also been detained for questioning.
