After the death of CDS Rawat, the Chief of the Army Staff, General MM Naravane took over as the Chief of Staff Committee.

New Delhi: Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane has taken over as the new Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) of India which includes the chiefs of the three defense services.

The development comes a week after the demise of the Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Bipin Rawat Who died in a helicopter crash on 8 December.

General Naravane has been selected for the post as he is the senior most among the three service chiefs. Indian Air Force Chief Marshal VR Choudhary and Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar took charge of their positions on 30 September and 30 November respectively.

Before the post of Chief of Defense Staff was created in 2019, the senior-most among the chiefs of the three services used to be the Chairman of the COSC.

The post was left vacant after the death of CDS General Rawat.

After taking charge, General Naravane had a telephonic conversation with Lieutenant General Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Mutair, Commander of the Royal Saudi Armed Forces, told PTI.

According to PTI, the Chiefs of Staff Committee met on Tuesday and condoled the death of General Rawat, his wife, Madhulika Rawat and 11 other personnel killed in the chopper crash on December 8. And General Naravane took charge of the post on Wednesday. ,

Late CDS General Rawat’s helicopter crashed in Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor region last week, killing 13 more people. Varun Singh, the lone survivor of the accident, was undergoing treatment at the Military Hospital in Bengaluru. Captain Singh died on Wednesday.
