Amidst the flurry of wedding gifts in the name of Bollywood star couple Ranbir Kapoor And Alia BhattMost unique is a pair of rescued horses named after the actor-couple who profess their love for animals.
The pair consists of a mare and a horse that has been rescued from different places. When the mare was being used for wedding ceremonies and was in a dire condition when it was found, the stallion was confiscated from the Gateway of India in Mumbai, where it was used to haul Victoria’s heavy carriage was going. The pair Ranbir and Alia have been gifted by the NGO Animal Rahat.
When they were rescued, both the animals were in bad health. The mare was anemic, had multiple infected wounds, and was so severely malnourished that her ribs and hip bones were out.
The stallion, on the other hand, was suffering from painful swelling and acute osteoarthritis in all four legs. Both horses are now living in one of Animal Relief’s sanctuaries, where they receive nutritious food as well as veterinary care.
Commenting on the occasion, Naresh Upreti, Chief Operating Officer, Animal Rahat, said in a statement, “Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor chose to keep their big day horse-free. Wedding is the perfect occasion for anyone to think and show off. Love to all our fellow sentient beings.”
Animal Relief is a non-profit organization that provides free assistance for horses that pull carts or are used in weddings, donkeys that are used by brick kilns, and oxen that work in sugar mills.
