After Rajbhar announces support to Murmu, SBSP chief will find it difficult to convince MLAs to vote

Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party chief Om Prakash Rajbhar is finding it difficult to convince some of his MLAs to vote for NDA presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu.

In the UP assembly, three out of six MLAs of Rajbhar’s party are originally from the Samajwadi Party.

Rajbhar had contested the 2022 UP assembly elections in alliance with the Samajwadi Party and some seats were contested by SP candidates on SBSP tickets.

With the elections approaching, speculations have intensified whether the MLA will follow Rajbhar to vote for Murmu or go with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s decision to support opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha.

However, experts believe that it is unlikely that these 3 MLAs will abide by OP Rajbhar’s decision to support Murmu. Meanwhile, there is also speculation that there may be a split in the SBSP.

During the election, three out of six MLAs elected from SBSP originally belonged to the SP, but they contested on SBSP tickets as per the coalition’s adjustment formula.

The three SP leaders who became SBSP MLAs are Dudharam from Mahadev seat of Basti, Jagdish Narayan from Jafrabad seat of Jaunpur and Abbas Ansari from Mau (Sadar).

It is not clear whether the three MLAs will support the NDA’s presidential candidate as announced by SBSP chief OP Rajbhar.

Apart from the three MLAs, OP Rajbhar himself is an MLA from Ghazipur’s Zahurabad seat, Hansu Ram from Belthara Road in Ballia and Bedi Ram from Jakhania seat of Ghazipur.

Earlier on Friday, speaking at a press conference in Lucknow, OP Rajbhar said, “I was invited by the Chief Minister of UP for the NDA presidential candidate’s dinner on July 8. I attended the dinner and had the opportunity to meet and discuss Draupadi Murmu ji. I had promised him that he would discuss his request for support with his MLAs. These days I also spoke to Amit Shah. After these discussions, we have decided to support the NDA candidate.”

On the question of his separation from the Samajwadi Party, Rajbhar said, “We are still in alliance with the Samajwadi Party but our party will support Murmu ji in the presidential election.”

After the recent by-elections to Rampur and Azamgarh Lok Sabha seats, Akhilesh Yadav And Rajbhar has not met and the latter was taking a dig at the SP chief and even said that “Akhilesh Yadav should get out of the AC rooms if he wants to win the election.”
