After losing defamation lawsuit, Amber says she still ‘loves’ Johnny Depp

Washington: Hollywood actor Amber Heard has said that she has “no bad feelings or ill-will” towards her ex-husband Johnny Depp and that she still loves him after the verdict of his highly publicized defamation case. According to Deadline, in an excerpt from her interview with a news outlet, Heard said that she still loves Depp.

“I love her. I love her with all my heart. And I tried my best to work out a deeply broken relationship. And I couldn’t. I don’t have any bad feelings or ill-will towards her. I know that That might be hard to understand or it might be really easy to understand. If you’ve ever loved someone, it should be easy,” said the actor, who asked Joe Depp for his 2011 film ‘The Rum Diary’. Met on set and married her from 2015 to 2017

When it came to the subject of his Washington Post op-ed that was at the center of Depp’s US$50 million defamation case, he said, “The op-ed was not about my relationship with Johnny. The op-ed What it was about was that I was lending my voice to a larger cultural conversation that we were having at the time.”

After a recent six-week trial in Fairfax County, Virginia, a seven-person jury ruled on June 1, ruling that Depp proved that Heard defamed him in a 2018 op-ed. Depp has said that he never attacked Heard and claims he physically harmed her.

The jury awarded Depp US$15 million in damages but Heard would only pay US$10.35 million because Virginia law limits punitive damages (the judge reduced the amount).

In his countersuit, Heard won one in three defamation counts and was awarded $2 million in damages, according to People magazine.
