After Ashes success, Australia’s Scott Boland is getting ‘calls’ from county sides

Following his stellar performance in the Ashes, 32-year-old Australia pacer Scott Boland is reportedly getting “calls” from several county sides.

The second male cricketer of indigenous origin after Jason Gillespie to play Tests for Australia, Boland took 18 wickets at 9.55 in three Ashes games.

The 32-year-old’s best bowling performance came during the Boxing Day Test at the MCG, where he took England’s six for just seven on debut as the hosts beat the Joe Root-led side by an innings and 14 runs.

But Boland has said he is not sure he will spend the season in England, given that Australia have three crucial series to play this year in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India.

“I spoke to my manager the other day, he said he had some calls (from county clubs),” Boland was quoted as saying by sen.com.au on Monday.

“I’m not sure I’ll go there, if I’m chosen to move to Pakistan, I think it’s going to be a really busy winter. We’ll wait and see what happens there.

“I will probably sit down at some stage and have a conversation with George Bailey (Cricket Australia’s chief selector) about where he sees my future in the next few years,” Boland said.

On Saturday, Australia beat England by 146 runs in the fifth and final Test in Hobart to register a 4-0 win in the Ashes series, with Boland returning figures of 3/18 in 12 overs as England fell to just 0/68. All out. 124 on day 3.
