After Airtel, now Vodafone Idea hikes prepaid tariff with basic plans starting at Rs 99 – View complete tariff chart

New Delhi: A day after telecom operator Bharti Airtel hiked tariffs for various prepaid offerings, Vodafone Idea also announced a tariff hike for various prepaid offerings.

Vodafone Idea has announced that the new tariffs will be applicable from 25 November 2021.

Basic Vodafone Idea prepaid plans now start at Rs 99 just like Airtel. With a validity of 28 days, the plan offers Rs 99 worth of talk time, 200 MB data plus 1 paise per second voice tariff.

Airtel On Monday, it announced a 20-25 per cent tariff hike for various prepaid offerings including tariff voice plans, unlimited voice bundles and data top-up and said the new rates would be effective from November 26.

The entry-level tariff for voice plans has been hiked by around 25 per cent, while for unlimited voice bundles it has been increased by around 20 per cent in most cases. The Sunil Mittal-led telco – whose India mobile subscriber base stood at around 323 million at last count – has also increased tariffs for data top-up plans by around 20-21 per cent.

Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel added 2.74 lakh mobile subscribers in September and Vodafone Idea lost 10.77 lakh subscribers during the month, according to data released by telecom regulator TRAI on Monday.

Airtel’s subscriber base stood at 35.44 million in September, up from 35.41 crore in August. According to monthly customer data compiled by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), a net additional 2.74 lakh users came in for the telco.

Troubled Vodafone Idea lost 10.77 lakh subscribers during the month under review and its subscriber base stood at 26.99 crore as of September 2021.

As of September 30, 2021, private access service providers held 89.99 per cent market share of wireless subscribers, while BSNL and MTNL, the two PSU access service providers, had a market share of only 10.01 per cent.

Wireless tele-density in India declined from 86.78 per cent at the end of August 2021 to 85.20 per cent at the end of September 2021. Wireless subscriptions in urban areas declined to 637.89 million (or 63.78 crore) at the end of September 2021, and fell to 528.13 million (52.81 crore) in rural areas during the same period.
