Manobala’s sudden demise sent shockwaves across the film industry.
Filmmaker Manobala made his directorial debut with the 1982 film Aagaya Gangai starring Karthik and Suhasini in lead roles.
The Tamil film industry was shaken by the sudden demise of actor-filmmaker Manobala, who passed away at a private hospital in Chennai on Wednesday. He was 69 years old. According to his close friends, he had a pancreatic problem and was undergoing treatment. Manobala was known for making high-caliber Tamil films.
After his death, there has been a flood of condolence messages on social media. Superstar Rajinikanth tweeted. “I am saddened by the demise of popular director, actor and my friend Manobala,” he said.
Besides him, legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja, with whom Manobala made his debut, said, “The passing away of my student Manobala is an irreparable loss to me and the Tamil film industry”.
Veteran actor and close friend of Manobala Kamal Haasan also paid tribute to the actor. “A good friend who was a director, actor and producer, the news of Manobala’s demise is a very sad one”.
Manobala started his career in the film industry as an assistant director before releasing films under his own direction. Manobala made his directorial debut with the 1982 film Aagaya Gangai starring Karthik and Suhasini in the lead roles. His first film failed to do well at the box office but his next Pillai Neela starring Mohan and Radhika was a huge success at the ticket counter.
Subsequently, he directed the films Sirai Paarvai, Moodu Manthiram, Mallu Vetti Minor, Oorkavalan, Malluvetti Minor and many more. Apart from directing several films, Manobala has acted in several films with leading actors such as Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay and Ajith. His exceptional acting skills and powerful personality made him a well-known name in Tamil cinema.
Apart from being a successful actor and director, Manobala made his debut as a producer with the film Sathuranga Vettai. Manobala is known for her roles in films such as Thuppakki, Vetri Padigal, Sathuranga Vettai and 31st December. The actor has a few projects in the pipeline including Kadhal Sei, Haara, Adhi Madhavigal, Andhagan, Golmaal, Kick and Indian 2.
