Around 5,900 Hindu workers in the Valley
There are about 5,900 Hindu employees in the Valley in categories like Prime Minister’s Package and Scheduled Castes. Of these, 1,100 are living in transit camp accommodation, while 4,700 are living in private residences. Despite the restrictions, 80 percent of the employees living in private accommodation and camps have left Kashmir and reached Jammu. Many families of camps in Anantnag, Baramulla, Srinagar are unable to leave because of the police-administration guard.

Police officers are making regular visits to the camps to prevent another exodus of Pandits. Kashmiri Pandit, who was part of the party that met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha recently, said- We are in depression. An employee said, “I had come 12 years ago, then considered myself as the ambassador of the government, but we were not accepted.” We don’t want to return.

Amit Jadu of Srinagar says, most of the employees with private accommodation have left. They had got no protection. Everywhere there is an atmosphere of fear. The people who are here are locked in their homes. Employees could not get government accommodation in 10 years. Now 2023 is being assured, but by then it will be too late.

Those who are left are compelled
Sheikhpora of Budgam is one of the high profile and safest transit camps for Kashmiri Pandits. This was the center of the protests after the murder of Rahul Bhat. Ashwini, who has been working here since 2010, while returning to Jammu with the family, said over the phone, “The camp was barricaded since the murder of teacher Rajni. We have come out with excuses. Only 20% of the families have stayed because of some work or compulsion.

Leaving Jammu by breaking police barricades
Sadhna Kaul, who works in the education department, said, ‘Only a few families have come out of here. We are waiting for the decision of the government. The camp has been sealed by the police-army. After the murder of Rajni, we stopped the children from going to school.

In Anantnag’s Mattan, the police had put up barricades to stop the movement, but on Thursday, Kashmiri Pandits broke it and left for Jammu. The condition of other Hindu employees of Jammu region is also grim. Most left after Rajni’s murder.

There are around 3,000 Scheduled Caste employees here, said an employee. More than 2,500 have migrated. All employees under Scheduled Castes are Hindus of Jammu. Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday reiterated that the employees need not leave the Valley. They will be shifted to a safe place. The administration said, the Amarnath Yatra starting from June 30 will be on time.

Grenade attack on non-Kashmiris
Militants on Friday attacked two non-Kashmiri workers with grenades in Shopian district. Both have been injured in this attack. An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Kapran in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Three jawans and local civilians were injured in this.

Agencies told the Home Minister – Pakistan’s hand behind target killing
Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting on Friday on the issue of 8 targeted killings in Jammu and Kashmir. In this, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, NSA Ajit Doval, Army Chief General Manoj Pandey as well as IB, RAW, CRPF, BSF chiefs were involved.

Security agencies have told the hand of Pakistan behind the attacks. It has been decided in the meeting that Kashmiri Pandits will not be expelled from the Valley. Tight security arrangements will be made there. Shah instructed to take strict steps against the terrorists and over ground workers involved in target killing.
