Afghans oppose Pakistan as it tries to impose its own currency.

Afghans are insisting that no one should use Pakistani currency and those who use it should be punished. According to the report of Pazvok News, many people have reacted to the report of a Pakistani newspaper which said that trade deals in Afghanistan should be based on Pakistani Rupee.

Pakistani newspaper Daily Jang quoted the country’s Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen in a report as saying that Afghanistan faced a shortage of dollar reserves and this would be the reason why Afghanistan would transact in Pakistani rupees.

Tarin made the statement after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank suspended payments to Afghanistan, the report said.

Raha Press reported that Pakistan’s most “shocking” economy minister told the Senate Economic Committee that since Afghanistan is running out of dollar liquidity these days, trade with Afghanistan can be done in rupees (Pakistani rupees).

It should be noted that in the past, in many cities of the country bordering Pakistan, the main trading exchanges were based on the Pakistani rupee, which was met with many reactions, the report said.

Shaukat said the situation in Afghanistan is being closely monitored and that Pakistan will send a team to help revive the Afghan economy.

Following these reports, Afghans launched a social media campaign titled ‘Afghani is our national identity’, Pazvok News said.

Most social media activists shared slogans, such as: “We are residents of Afghanistan, Afghani is our national identity and it is our national responsibility to use Afghan currency”.

Social media user Abdul Karim said in a tweet, “I will make my own country, so I will use my country’s currency. Every transaction in Afghanistan must be on Afghan currency.”

Another social media user, Mohammad Saeed, while addressing the Taliban said, “The survival of Afghans is entirely up to you, if here (Afghanistan) replaces Afghani with Pakistani money, it will be on you and Afghans will hold you accountable.” “

Several pro-Taliban people also reacted to the issue.

One of them, Hammad Afghan, said in a tweet, “If you want to brighten your future and create a prosperous Afghanistan, you must promote our national currency (Afghani).”

Taliban pro-Afghan Sheikh Abdul Hamid Hammasi said: “If someone values national identity and Afghanism, they should use Afghan currency for transactions…”

He said the Taliban should make it clear to all officials, businessmen and people that they would be punished if they used Pakistani rupees.

The report said that many others held similar views and said that those using foreign exchange should be punished.
