Affected by MLA exodus, AAP announces first list of candidates for Punjab Assembly elections

Afraid of joining the chorus of prominent MLAs and more leaders to declare the chief ministerial face for the upcoming assembly polls, the Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab unit on Friday declared the first list of candidates retaining all sitting MLAs. .

Despite claims by AAP convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that the party will project a Sikh face in Punjab, the party is yet to announce a CM face but has been unable to do so with the assembly elections due a few months away. .

Even as the state party leadership is claiming that people from different walks of life are joining the party, the party faced red color on Wednesday when one of its sitting MLAs from Bathinda Rural (reserved) Rupinder Kaur Ruby crosses over. to join Congress.

The bench strength of the APP is dwindling and the state leadership has failed to keep the herd together. In the last assembly election, the party had won 20 seats and became the major opposition party in the assembly.

But over the years the number has come down to 11, with five MLAs including Sukhpal Singh Khaira, who was inducted into the Congress by the ED on Wednesday. Another leader HS Phoolka has quit politics and Kanwar Sandhu is under suspension. Baldev Singh was disqualified from the state assembly last week and Amarjit Sandoa remained undecided. Thus his candidature has not been announced in the first list.

In the first list, AAP Legislature Party leader Harpal Singh Cheema has been fielded from Dirba assembly constituency, his deputy Sarvjit Kaur Manuke will contest from Jagraon. Jai Kishan Rodi from Garhshankar, Manjit Bilaspur from Nihal Singh Wala, Kultar Singh Sandhwan from Kotkapura, Baljinder Kaur from Talwandi Sabo, Budhram from Budhlada, Aman Arora from Sunam, Gurmeet Singh Meet Haier from Barnala and Kulwant Pandori from Mahal Kalan. Is. According to the list released by AAP’s state unit chief Bhagwant Mann and Punjab affairs in-charge Jarnail Singh. All 10 have become MLAs for the first time.
