Aero India 2023: UK plans to deepen defence ties, collaborate across fields

The UK government on Monday said the UK defense sector was deployed at India’s flagship air show, Aero India 2023 in Bengaluru, with a strong interest in collaborating with India in research, training and development.

The UK team at Aero India 2023 included Defense Procurement Minister Alex Chalk, Air Vice-Marshal of the Royal Air Force Richard Maddison and British manufacturing giants such as Rolls-Royce, MBDA UK, Thales UK, BAE Systems, Collins Aerospace and Leonardo. British High Commissioner Alex Ellis said the UK delegation is supporting ‘self-reliance’ in Aero India 2023. The delegation will meet a number of Indian stakeholders this week. They will also discuss key collaborations such as a partnership to develop jet engines and technology for marine electric propulsion, reaffirming the UK’s support for not only ‘Make in India’ but ‘Create in India’.

The British High Commissioner further said that the UK is looking forward to further deepening its ties with India. He said the UK is already doing business with India, negotiating FTAs ​​and has topped the number of Indian students in the UK. The 14th edition of Aero India 2023 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13 February at the Yelahanka Air Force Station Complex in Bengaluru. The event will see participation from 98 countries and around 800 defense firms.
