Adiyah and Adriel Nadaraja were born 126 days early and were not expected to survive

A Canadian girl and boy born more than four months premature and not expected to survive celebrated their first birthday with Guinness World Records as the world’s prettiest twins.

Adiah and Adrial Nadarajah were born 22 weeks or 126 days early on March 4, 2022 – breaking the previous record set by American twins in 2018 by one day.

Guinness World Records (GWR) states on its website that they weigh 330 g (0.72 lb) and 420 g (0.92 lb) respectively.

Citing the children’s parents, the reference book for the Record of Human Achievements and Natural World Extremes states that the twins were given a “zero percent chance of survival” by doctors.

Her mother Shakina Rajendram told GWR, “When I went into labour, the babies at the hospital were deprived of all life-sustaining measures and I was almost left to die.”

Most hospitals do not attempt to save babies born before 24-26 weeks.

But these two are alive and kicking.

A photo of the twins sitting on a sofa next to their GWR framed certificates shows Adia looking wide-mouthed in surprise, while her brother Adriel appears worried.

The twins were described at birth as being extremely thin with translucent skin. After six months in the hospital, where doctors dealt with complications including brain bleeding and sepsis, he was finally sent home.

Since being discharged from the hospital, Aadiya has gained 18 times her birth weight, according to GWR. Shakina said, “She is a very happy and social baby, and smiles all day long. She is very talkative and interacts with us and her toys for hours.”

Adriel has had a few setbacks – infection and respiratory problems that twice sent her to hospital for care – but is said to be “progressing well”.

Shekinah described him as “observant, observant and intelligent” and a music lover.
