The relatives of the youths who died due to intoxication

Diwali is a festival of happiness and light, but in the villages and towns of Punjab, the demon of intoxication has extinguished the lamps of the houses, then in what hope should they light the lamps today. Today, on Deepawali, we are bringing the sorrow of those houses, on which the present government has kept a curtain on the back side. There are many such areas in Ludhiana, the industrial hub of Punjab, where there is nothing except drug addiction, unemployment and crime.

One of these is Pirubanda Mohalla, the resident of Ram Krishna works as a confectioner, his profession is to deliver sweets to people’s homes. However, drug addiction has stirred bitterness in their lives. His 36-year-old son Arvinder Kumar alias Sonu died on 3 October this month. He was addicted to drugs and because of this he died. He left behind a seven-month-old baby girl and wife. The father also spent seven to eight lakh rupees to get rid of the addiction and he also has a debt of five lakh rupees.

The father is the president of Guru Ravidas Trust and raises his voice against the drug business going on in the area, drug smugglers put his son on drugs so that he could not raise his voice. The chairman of this trust is Balveer Chand. He says that in Rama Krishna’s house alone, drugs have not ruined the house, but in every third house, there has been death due to intoxication. This is not a new thing, in his locality, intoxication came ten years ago and today it is in every house. There will hardly be any such house here that has not knocked on drugs.

Balveer Chand says that you talk about this Diwali, maybe some Diwali has come out when happiness has been created here. Around Diwali, there is mourning in some house or the other.

Two hundred and fifty youths intoxicate daily with government syringes
The Punjab AIDS Control Society is running a project on behalf of the Punjab government. Whose main objective is to save youth from serious diseases like black jaundice, AIDS due to repeated intoxication from a syringe. In collaboration with Dr. Kotnis Acupressure Hospital, three centers are being run in the city. From here daily around two hundred and fifty youths carry syringes for drugs. In which some number of girls are also there. That is, two and a half hundred addicts are taking intoxicants from government syringes every day, those who take intoxicants from civil hospitals, private medical stores are different.

The families had to besiege till the police commissioner’s office.
The situation in Sensi locality of Ludhiana is also similar. Nine youths have died here in two years and due to this, the residents of this place demonstrated in front of the Police Commissioner’s office by taking photographs of the said youths. A few days later, a torch march was also taken out on his behalf in the locality, but to no avail. Rajwant Singh, a resident here, says that the situation has not changed much. Earlier, there was a police guard for some time, but again intoxicants have started selling here.

Appeal to Chief Minister Channi, we do not want anything free, stop intoxication
Balveer Chand, chairman of Guru Ravidas Seva Trust, says that the Chief Minister of the state is from the SC community and it is ironic that most of the youth of the SC community are trapped in drugs. The Chief Minister is doing very relief work for the poor. But I request that he should stop the supply of drugs by giving him a gift on Diwali. Captain Amarinder Singh had also promised Gutka Sahib during the 2017 elections that he would end drugs. But the addiction is not over. Now CM Channi will have to do something for this.
