Actor Harish Peradi objected to Mukhmukham’s removal from Adoor film festival

Kerala Chapter of Federation of Film Societies India (FFSI) is paying tribute to renowned Malayalam director Adoor Gopalakrishnan, who has completed 50 years in the industry. FFSI has organized an Adoor Gopalakrishnan Online Film Festival from 20-28 June.

While classics from several renowned directors like Swayamvaram, Kodiyattam, Anantharam and Mathilukal have been included in the festival to be viewed in high quality, veteran actor Harish Peradi has expressed his displeasure over Mukhamukham’s omission.

In his post, he writes, ‘What is the Adoor Film Festival without Mukhamukham? Why was this film not included when Adoor Gopalakrishnan has repeatedly said that it is one of the films that is closest to his heart? Released in 1984, Mukhmukham won the State Awards for Best Picture and Best Director of the Year and the National Awards for Best Screenplay, Best Screenplay and Best Director. Despite allegations of the film being anti-communist, Adoor denied it. The film was also discussed in the Russian Parliament. It is widely believed that Adoor’s exploration of creativity, isolation and individuality through cinema began with this film. Adoor said that the theme of Mukhamukham is the difference between the revolutionary enthusiasm of youth and the laziness of old age.
