Activist sent legal notice to MCG regarding waste management. Gurgaon News – Times of India

Gurgaon: A City Located Green worker Legal notices have been sent to the MCG as well as the RWAs of 25 housing societies and HSVP plot colonies in Gurgaon for their alleged failure to comply with solid waste. Management Rule.
Vaishali Rana Chandra has threatened to approach the National Green Tribunal if the municipal bodies and RWAs do not segregate waste and set up composting units in their societies within 15 days. Large housing societies such as bulk waste generators are mandated to produce 50 kg or more of waste per day and process and manage it themselves.
Vaishali said, “These bulk waste generators in the city are not segregating the waste at source, which is in violation of the SWM Rules, 2016. They have a fortnight to comply with the rules, otherwise I would approach the NGT. I will.”
Vaishali said that according to a report by HSPCB in 2019, only 17.5 per cent of the 4,635 tonnes of waste generated daily in Haryana is successfully treated and recycled. “Many bulk waste generators are still flouting SWM rules and civic bodies are dragging their feet in effective implementation of the same. If the rules are not followed, we will be forced to approach the Green Tribunal.”
When contacted, MCG joint commissioner Hariom Attri said, “Three teams have already conducted a survey in the city. We have tried to educate the people by making them aware and motivated, but now we will strictly enforce the rules. We have already identified over 1,000 bulk waste generators in the city and started issuing notices to them.”
“If they fail to comply with the SWM rules, we will impose a fine of Rs 1 lakh for the first time, which may extend up to Rs 5 lakh for the second violation,” he added.
