Sources said that the Excise Department was informed that liquor was being sold at Mahato General Store in Parsudih.
Sources said that on Monday, the department had conducted raids after receiving a complaint about the sale of liquor in another nearby general store. During the raid, the excise officials found that the allegations were true as liquor was recovered from a Kundu variety shop at Gangadih in East Singhbhum district.
Sources said that one person has been arrested in this connection.
Meanwhile, the villagers of Boram and Haludbani in the district together decided that they would stop anyone from using the forest area for making illegal country liquor. They will also stop the felling of trees in the forest.
Villagers said that the forest at the foothills of Dalma hills is being used to build illicit liquor. He said that people engaged in this business are also cutting forests. Villagers said that steps would have to be taken to identify such people, stop them and hand them over to the police.
Sources said the youth of the area are being motivated by Padma Shri recipient Jamuna Tudu to rise up against the whereabouts of illegal country liquor. The heads of the village panchayats have entrusted the local youth to keep an eye on those who try to set up liquor hideouts in the forest areas.
