Acer India’s service system hacked, login and financial data breached: Report

Acer India is reportedly the victim of a cyber attack.

The reason for the current cyberattack is unclear, and Acer is yet to officially share the information. Reportedly around 60GB of data has been compromised.

Acer India has reportedly confirmed that its after-sales service system in the country has been breached. According to Bleeping Computer, the threatening actor has already attacked a popular hacker forum claiming that around 60GB of data has been compromised. The allegedly stolen data includes client, corporate and financial information as well as login details related to Acer retailers and distributors in India. Earlier this year, Acer again faced a cybersecurity issue where a hacker group demanded $50 million in ransom. The same publication had witnessed the attack and noted hackers may have gained access to Acer’s network through a Microsoft vulnerability.

The reason for the current cyberattack is unclear, and the Taiwanese PC maker has yet to officially share the information. However, the company confirmed the issue to Bleeping Computer and called it “an isolated attack”. acer had alerted the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, and the cyber attack does not affect its operations and business. “Upon detection, we immediately initiated our security protocols and conducted a complete scan of our systems. We are notifying all potentially affected customers in India.

The anonymous threat actor has reportedly provided a video showcasing the stolen files and database. It also includes stolen credits for 10,000 customer records and 3,000 Indian Acer distributors and retailers.
