SURAT: Nishant Vyas, the suspended principal of a city municipal school who was accused of sexually harassing a student, was nabbed by the city police on Saturday.
Police got specific information that Vyas had come to meet someone near his house. Police has been approached by one more victim of Vyas’ sexual harrasment and a fresh offence is being lodged against him. Vyas was booked on July 18 in Punagam police station under section 12 (sexual harassment upon a child) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was principal of Municipal School Board, Surat (MSBS) school number 300 in Punagam. The complaint was lodged by a school employee based on an inquiry conducted by a committee formed by Surat Municipal Corporation. Following an order of inquiry, he was transferred to a school in Adajan.
In the complaint, Vyas has been accused of allowing harassment of a 14-year-old Class VIII student in his presence. The victim’s clothes were removed and he is seen being harassed nude in the video that went viral.
According to the FIR, Vyas allowed videography of the incident on his mobile phone as well. Other boys in the video are seen making fun of the victim boy, states the FIR.
Vyas had been on the run soon after the FIR was filed.
