‘Absolute Shoo-in for 2024 T20 WC if he Continues to Play This Way’: Tom Moody Lauds KKR Star Rinku Singh

Kolkata Knight Riders’ Rinku Singh has caused an uproar in the 2023 IPL season thanks to his impressive performances this season and has become a household name thanks to his power-hitting heroics in the past month.

Rinku managed to score 474 runs this season and broke into the top 10 of the top scorer rankings with his four fifties in the campaign.

Former Australian player Tom Moody praised the Aligarh player after the season. The 57-year-old Australian attributed the rise of the attacking batsman to his strong foundation.

Moody also said that if Rinku manages to maintain the form shown in the campaign, he is a shoo-in for the Indian team for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

“He’s got the game. He’s got a strong foundation of his game. We talked about earlier that it’s no coincidence that he’s taken advantage of every single game he’s had and grabbed it with both hands. Because his Has got the pedigree. He averages around 60 in first-class cricket. He’s played a lot of first-class cricket. He’s got a strong foundation,” Moody said.

The former Kings XI Punjab coach spoke of Rinku’s technique, balance and composure at the crease which has helped KKR register 6 wins in the campaign despite not qualifying for the playoffs this season.

“She has not been taken out of nowhere. He is a very good ball striker. He’s got the pedigree. He has technique at the crease, great balance and composure and has been in pressure situations in other formats of the game.”

Rinku grabbed headlines about a month ago after his incredible innings against defending champions Gujarat Titans. The left-handed batsman hit GT bowler Yash Dayal for five consecutive sixes in the final over of the game between the sides to hand the Shah Rukh Khan-owned side a crucial win.

Moody said the 25-year-old’s calmness under pressure is what makes such incredible feats possible.

“One of the most impressive things is his temperament. The best finishers have a really calculating mind and a very calm head, even under pressure. And it looks like that,” explained Moody.

“He’s proving he can play that specialist role of finisher. He’s also a gun fielder. That World Cup is a long way off. Not like a 50-over World Cup. It’s next year.”

The Australian, who has also coached Sunrisers Hyderabad, said that if Rinku can continue to play the way he has managed to do in the ongoing Indian Premier League season, a call up to the national team for the 2024 World Cup is in order. -up cup is fixed.

“But, absolutely. He’s going to play another IPL between now and then. If he continues to play like this, he’s an absolute shoo-in,” Moody said.
