Abhishek Sharma has become a regular headline-maker for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Accompanying Travis Head at the top of the order, Abhishek has wreaked havoc with his big-hitting prowess on several occasions this year. His last outing was in Hyderabad where the young Indian opener smacked eight boundaries and six maximums to score an unbeaten 75 off 28 balls. Powered by his boundary-laden knock and Head’s blistering 89, SRH completed a 166-run chase in 9.4 overs, beating Lucknow Super Giants by ten wickets.

After the match was over at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Abhishek Sharma was spotted speaking to someone on the phone. During a post-match conversation on JioCinema, the 23-year-old was asked to reveal whom he was talking to at that moment. Abhishek quickly replied that the person at the receiving end was his mother, who wanted to visit Hyderabad to attend the match against Lucknow Super Giants.

The youngster, however, made an error while booking the flight tickets of his parents. Instead of Hyderabad, Abhishek purchased the ticket for his hometown Amritsar. “They were to come to Hyderabad to watch the match. But I don’t know how, unfortunately, I booked a flight to Amritsar,” he was heard saying in a video shared on an Instagram page named Cric Matrix.

Abhishek’s honest confession was loved by many fans, with the post garnering more than 4 lakh views and over 3 lakh likes. Some of them found a similarity with Indian captain Rohit Sharma who supposedly has a habit of forgetting important things. “I think all the cricketers having the surname Sharma are the same as our Hitman (Rohit),” a person sarcastically commented. One viewer assumed that Abhishek was apologising to his parents on the phone call.

Abhishek Sharma looks promising to secure the Emerging Player award in this IPL edition. He has already recorded 401 runs in his 12 appearances during the campaign so far. He has batted at a 200-plus strike rate while maintaining an average of 36.45. Abhishek has registered two fifties this season. He will be seen in action again when Sunrisers Hyderabad host Gujarat Titans in their penultimate league fixture on May 16.
