AAP’s Punjab success: It’s time for dance, sweets and celebrations, say party workers

‘Ik Mauka Dena Appa Kejriwal Nu, Ik Mauka Dena Bhagwant Mann Nu’ — high-decibel Punjabi music on the loop is the only thing that one can hear at the Aam Aadmi Party’s headquarters at central Delhi’s Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg.

The reason is justified – the party is set to form the government for the first time outside Delhi.

Party workers are dancing to the song and AAP is buzzing with office activities.

Political heavyweights including Amarinder Singh and Navjot Sidhu, who won the 2017 assembly election for the Congress by a huge margin, are trailing AAP candidates in their constituencies.

AAP has left behind 89 out of 117 seats.

Not only to form the government in Punjab, party volunteers are celebrating AAP’s chances of winning a seat in Goa, a sign of the party’s expansion beyond Delhi and Punjab.

Deepak Goel, a volunteer of the party, told News18.com, “We are dancing because today we have become a national party, Punjab has given us every reason to celebrate.”

Between dancing, distribution of sweets and celebrations at the headquarters, volunteers and the media eagerly await the arrival of party leaders, especially Arvind Kejriwal – the party’s face.

Surbhi Sondhi, a finance analyst turned social activist who has been with Kejriwal since the beginning, led the concerted dance of the workers. The dance group, Aap Flashmob, has been practicing every weekend since last month. We were confident of our victory in Punjab. The party has worked very hard. Like Punjab, AAP will continue to expand its footprint and will also register a victory in Goa (in the next election).

The workers are expecting Kejriwal to come any moment now.
