AAP alleges BJP leader involved in Kanjhawala incident, accuses party of shielding him

New Delhi: Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh on Wednesday lashed out at the BJP, accusing the saffron party of ‘shielding’ an accused in the sensational Sultanpuri car-hauling case. He also demanded to know why the accused Manoj Mittal has not been removed from the party yet. In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old woman died in the early hours of New Year after her scooter was hit by a car, which dragged her for 12 kms. His body was found at Kanjhawala in outer Delhi. Five people allegedly traveling in the car have been booked under sections including culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The five accused were sent to police custody for three days on Monday. Singh also claimed that he had sought an appointment with Union Home Minister Amit Shah through letters, emails and phone calls to discuss the incident, but is yet to get an appointment. “A horrific crime took place in Delhi and the way BJP is extending its support to the criminals is shameful. I have been calling Amit Shah since Tuesday, seeking time to discuss the incident. I have sent a letter, emailed them and even called. I was told that I would get an appointment on Wednesday, but no one responded further from his office.

The senior AAP leader accused the Delhi Police of negligence, alleging that despite issuing notices regarding additional security measures for the new year, the police failed to maintain law and order in the city.

“Delhi Police had made tall claims about New Year’s security arrangements. So, why has this incident happened despite their extra measures? If Amit Shah cannot manage law and order in Delhi, he should should be left and (Delhi chief minister) Arvind Kejriwal takes care of the city’s safety and security,” he said.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has said that strictest punishment should be given to the accused and efforts should be made to run the case in a fast track court. It had said that Mittal had recently joined the party during the Delhi MCD elections, but had not taken party membership.

“BJP leader Manoj Mittal along with his friends are responsible for such crime. They are acting like Taliban in Hindustan. Not a single BJP leader condemned the incident nor took any action against Mittal. Why was there no investigation against Manoj?” Mittal?” asked Sanjay Singh.

Earlier, Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had also demanded removal of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena over alleged lapses in the Kanjhawala incident.

A delegation of AAP legislators had also met Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora on Tuesday and demanded strictest punishment for those involved in the crime. It also sought the dismissal of the district Deputy Commissioner of Police for allegedly shielding the accused.
Meanwhile, AAP on Wednesday took out a candle march in central Delhi demanding justice for the victim Anjali Singh. Several AAP leaders and workers gathered at Jantar Mantar carrying candles and banners that read ‘Dilli ki beti ko insaaf do’ (Justice for Delhi’s daughter).

Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai also took part in the march and said that the central government and LG should take the strictest action against the culprits.

“Instead of shielding the culprits, strict action should be taken against them by the central government and LG VK Saxena,” he added.
