Aadhaar Update: UIDAI Warns Against Aadhaar Fraudsters; How to Verify Aadhaar Online

Aadhaar Update: Fake Aadhaar cards and Aadhaar numbers are often used to commit serious crimes, and the Unique Identification Authority of India or UIDAI has repeatedly warned Aadhaar users to beware of fraudsters. A fake premise can be used to commit crimes under the user’s name and fraudsters often use this trick to do so. It has also become easier as the 12 digit number has become an essential part of identity for every Indian citizen. In a tweet on March 25, UIDAI Asked all Aadhaar users to beware of fraudsters. “Any Aadhaar is verifiable online/offline. To verify offline, scan the QR code on e-Aadhaar or #Aadhaar letter or #AadhaarPVCcard To verify online, enter 12 digit Aadhaar at the link: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/verifyAadhaar ,” it said.

UIDAI said on its website, “In order to check the authenticity of the Aadhaar card, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has created a mechanism to verify Aadhaar both online and offline.”

To check whether a given Aadhaar number is issued by UIDAI or not, a service is available in public domain on the official website of UIDAI.

How to identify fake aadhaar online

Step 1: If you want to check whether the Aadhaar number you have is genuine or fake, visit the official website of UIDAI. https://resident.uidai.gov.in/offlineaadhaar.

Step 2: Next, select the option ‘Aadhaar Verification’ services. You can also directly visit the link https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/verifyAadhaar to check the authenticity of Aadhaar.

Step 3: After that enter 12 digit Aadhaar number or 16 digit Virtual ID to proceed.

Step 4: While you are entering the number, enter the security code displayed on the screen and request for One Time Password or OTP. You can also choose to enter TOTP.

Step 5: Now you will receive OTP on your registered mobile number for Aadhaar number or Virtual ID as given usually. Enter the OTP on the website.

Step 6: It will redirect you to a new page where you may get a message which states whether your Aadhaar number is valid or not.

Step 7: Along with the message, name, state, age, gender and other details for the respective Aadhaar number will also appear on the screen. If all these details are displayed, then the Aadhaar number that you have is a genuine one.

In addition, a single scan scans the QR code printed on the Aadhaar letter/eAadhaar/Aadhaar PVC card to verify the Aadhaar offline.
