Aadhaar Card Update: The government has said that if you want to update your Aadhaar details online by uploading the required documents, you can do so without paying any fee for the next three months.

To avail this limited period offer, residents need to login to the myAadhaar portal and follow the instructions to complete the process. The free service will be available from March 15 to June 14, 2023. Those who opt to update documents at physical Aadhaar centres, however, will have to pay a fee of Rs 50, as mandated earlier by the Ministry of Electronics and IT. said in a release.

If there is a need to change demographic details (name, date of birth, address etc.), residents can use the regular online update service, or visit the nearest Aadhaar centre.

Normal charges will be applicable in such cases. However, people seeking to change the contact number will have to physically visit the Aadhaar center and pay Rs 50 as a fee.

For residents whose Aadhaar cards were issued more than 10 years ago and never updated their UID, UIDAI is encouraging them to upload documents online to re-verify the demographic details.

As per the Aadhaar Enrollment and Update Regulations, 2016; Aadhaar number holders can update their supporting documents in Aadhaar by submitting POI and POA documents at least once every 10 years from the date of enrollment for Aadhaar, to ensure continued accuracy of their information.

How to opt for digital medium for updating Aadhaar documents?

To update the details digitally, users can login to https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ using their Aadhaar number, where an OTP (One Time Password) will be shared on their registered mobile numbers. Will be done.

One Time Password (OTP) will be sent to the registered mobile number; One just needs to click on ‘Update Document’ and the current details of the resident will be displayed.

The Aadhaar holder needs to verify the details and if found correct, click on the next hyper-link.

On the next screen, the resident has to select the documents for proof of identity and proof of address from the drop-down list and upload copies of the same to update his/her documents.

Why is Aadhaar Card necessary?

Over the years, and especially after 2015, the Aadhaar number has emerged as a universally accepted proof of identity for Indian residents.

Around 1,200 government schemes and programmes, run by both the central and state governments, are using UID-based identification for delivery of services.

Apart from this, many other services by service providers including financial institutions like banks, NBFCs etc. are also using Aadhaar to authenticate and onboard customers.
