A to Z of 6000 crore drug case: Sacked DSP Bhola stirred Punjab politics by taking Majithia’s name, ED has questioned

The case in which an FIR has been registered against former Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia in the famous synthetic drug case of Rs 6,000 crore in Punjab started in 2012. The first FIR was registered in Fatehgarh Sahib and in the initial stage this case also looked like other normal cases. There was a political uproar in this when Jagdish Bhola, the main accused in the case, who appeared in the case in 2014 and sacked DSP of Punjab Police, took the name of the then Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia.

There was then the Akali-BJP coalition government in Punjab and Majithia was counted among the most powerful ministers due to his kinship with the Badal family. The entire politics of Punjab was shaken by the name of Majithia in the drug case. Know about this drug case…

Government gave clean chit

Bhola, an international wrestler, took Majithia’s name in front of the media outside the court premises but did not mention him inside the court. When the Congress party sitting in the opposition started besieging the government, then CM Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal, looking after the Home Ministry, gave a clean chit to Majithia. Majithia was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which started the investigation from the angle of money laundering in the drug case. In this too there was talk of giving him a clean chit. No one ever said this formally.

51 people arrested
Sumedh Singh Saini was the DGP of Punjab at the time of this case. Saini refused to take action against Majithia saying that action cannot be taken at the behest of any hard core criminal. Saini had then claimed that 51 people were arrested in this case from whom 71 vehicles, 13 weapons and a huge quantity of synthetic drugs were recovered.

In the synthetic drug smuggling case, the first two cases were registered in Fatehgarh Sahib and Banur police stations. After that 5 more cases were registered in different districts of Punjab. Jagdish Bhola was acquitted in 4 of these cases while Jagdish Bhola was sentenced to 10, 12 and 2 years in 3 other cases. Apart from Bhola, 18 others have also been imprisoned in these cases ranging from 6 months to 15 years.
