‘A few points I would like to talk about’: Mayank Agarwal excited to work with Rahul Dravid

India batsman Mayank Agarwal is eager to pick the brains of the national team’s newly-appointed head coach Rahul Dravid once again, having had an enjoyable experience with the “inaccessible” Karnataka legend in the ‘A’ side.

Dravid, one of the greats to have played for India, was appointed the head coach of the Indian team after Ravi Shastri’s tenure ended earlier this month.

Asked what aspects of the game he would discuss with Dravid, who served as the national chief Cricket Before taking over the top post in the Indian team academy, Agarwal said, “There are some points on which I want to talk to him and he is in touch.”

“And it is not only now, even earlier, when we were part of India A, we could just pick up the phone and talk to him and share what was on our mind. He is very approachable like this,” said the elegant right-handed batsman, who has 1,052 runs in 14 Tests.

The opener is also looking forward to the upcoming two-Test series against New Zealand, which will take place at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur and the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

“I am really looking forward to (the series) and I am really excited to be part of the team against New Zealand,” the 30-year-old said.

Agarwal played a brilliant innings of 441 runs IPL This year, reflecting on the past season as well, he said that he is very happy with the way he has performed for Punjab Kings.

“I think, I was very happy with the way I have performed (in IPL). I have really grown into the role the team expected me to play and have been an attacker whenever the opportunity arises; I saw him batting during the innings.

“I’ve sometimes enjoyed the responsibility of batting through the innings (and) that’s what I’ve learned and really enjoyed,” he said.

Agarwal led Punjab Kings in the absence of regular skipper KL Rahul and the opener said the two were good friends.

He said, ‘I was the captain of a match and I enjoyed that responsibility too. It was unfortunate that KL (Rahul) had to be ruled out due to an injury. We have been very good friends, we have played all our cricket together and when I made my debut, he was with the Indian team.

The right-handed batsman said, “He always has words of encouragement and he has always supported (me) and we have really enjoyed batting together and we communicate really well in the middle. “

Agarwal, who made his Test debut against Australia at the prestigious Melbourne Cricket Ground, said representing India for the first time was the most memorable moment for him.

“It was very special, playing my first Test match and that too on Boxing Day at the MCG, he said, adding that he remembers a lot about that 76-run knock he made on his debut.

Agarwal, who is currently attending the Test specialist camp at BKC, admitted that his role as an opener is challenging.

“We will see, the role of an opener is challenging and it is something that we have prepared to overcome various challenges throughout our career.”

“Different countries have different conditions and Australia has a lot of bounce, and New Zealand has swing and seam, we have worked hard on that as well and we have overcome challenges and we are winning a lot, and Much more now series abroad,” he signed.
