9,765 Covid cases and 477 deaths reported in India in last 24 hours, active cases below 1 lakh

New Delhi: India has managed to maintain the daily Covid tally below 10,000 for another day as the country reported 9,765 new cases in the last 24 hours. According to the Union Health Ministry, 477 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours and 8,548 people died in the country in the last 24 hours.

The country’s active caseload currently stands at 99,763. Active cases account for less than 1% of the total cases, currently at 0.29%, and are the lowest since March 2020.

The recovery rate of the country is currently 98.35 percent.

Omicron scares in India

While the Omicron version of COVID-19 continues to sound the alarm in the country, six people who flew into Delhi from ‘at-risk’ countries including the UK and the Netherlands on Wednesday were admitted to Lok Nayak Hospital after four tests. positive for COVID-19 and two showed symptoms, PTI reported.

Their samples have been sent to the National Centers for Disease Control for genome sequencing to determine whether they have the new variant omicron.

All the six people have been admitted to LNJP Hospital, where a special ward has been set up to isolate and treat such patients, officials said.

“Four flights originating from Amsterdam and London and carrying 1,013 passengers landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport between 12 pm and 6 am. Of these, four passengers have tested positive,” a source said.

The three patients traveled from Amsterdam on a flight carrying 372 people. The fourth patient took off from London with 176 others. He said that all are Indian citizens.

An official of the LNJP hospital told PTI that the reports of two more passengers, who have come negative but have symptoms like Kovid, have been brought to the hospital.

He said that at present a total of six patients are in the hospital.
