961 new covid cases reported in Mumbai, TPR is 11%

On Sunday, the test positivity rate (TPR) – the number of positive cases out of the total tests conducted – stood at 11 per cent with 961 new cases in Mumbai. COVID-19 The cases were identified out of 8,778 tests conducted. The state’s TPR stood at 5.7 per cent after 1,494 patients tested positive for Covid-19 out of 25,994 tests conducted on Sunday.

Moving on its upward trend, a day after recording 889 new Covid-19 cases, the number of cases in the city rose to 961 on Sunday. This counts as an increase of 8 percent within 24 hours. The active COVID cases in the city increased to 4,880, which is 72 per cent of the total cases in the state, which is 6,767.

Despite a seven-fold increase in cases, there is no active containment zone in the city till Sunday. Of the 4,768 beds with oxygen facilities, only 14 were occupied. Similarly, out of 1,544 beds reserved in ICUs, only 34 had patients. On Sunday, the condition of only four patients in the city was critical.

Given the mild severity of the infection, public health officials believe that the hospitalization rate will be minimal as in the third wave. “As seen in the third wave, the severity of the infection is mild. The patients do not require oxygen support and most are asymptomatic and recovering at their home,” said Dr Mangala Gomare, executive health officer.

Meanwhile, districts across the state are gearing up to ramp up their testing capacities from Monday, as instructed by Additional Chief Secretary Dr Pradeep Vyas in a letter on Friday.
