The body of a seven-month-old baby was pulled out of the rubble on Saturday.

In Maharashtra, 45 houses were demolished in a land slide that occurred at 5 pm on July 22 in Taliye village of Mahad taluka of Raigad district. In this accident, about 90 people of the village were buried under the rubble, out of which the bodies of 53 were recovered till Monday morning. 32 bodies are still buried. These include many children and women. Teams of NDRF, SDRF and TDRF are working continuously to clear the debris.

According to NDRF, 11 dead bodies have been removed from here on Sunday. Sampat Chadekar, sarpanch of Taliye village said that now the hope of survival of those trapped under the rubble is negligible. The bodies that are being taken out are badly decomposed. The family is getting upset seeing them. Therefore, the people of the village decided in the meeting on Sunday that they would no longer allow the 32 bodies buried under the rubble to be removed. His symbolic last rites will be performed at the site of the accident itself.

Villagers want written assurance regarding compensation
Sampat Chadekar said that some villagers believe that if the bodies are not taken out, they will not get compensation. In such a situation, the administration should give us in writing that even if the bodies are not found, compensation will be given to the family of the deceased.

On this wish of the villagers, District Magistrate Nidhi Choudhary says, “It is not an easy decision for the district administration. The local people are demanding that we stop the operation and declare the survivors of the debris dead, but the district disaster management team wants to continue the operation till the last body is found. It has happened many times that even days after such an accident, some alive people have been found from the rubble.

Nidhi Chaudhary further said, ‘I have tried to convince them to let this operation go on, but they want us to stop it. We do not want to hurt their sentiments.

Administration will stop rescue operation only after written consent
On Sunday evening, some people of Taliye village held discussions with the local MLA, District Collector, teams of NDRF, SDRF and TDRF. After a meeting of about two hours, it was decided that the operation would be officially called off only after the official written consent of each missing person’s family member was obtained. The administration is not going to stop its efforts until the consent is received. After getting the consent letter, the district administration will issue a certificate of death of all.

On this matter, local MLA Gogavale said that another meeting will be held on Monday and consent letters of relatives will be handed over to the administration. “If even one member of the family objected, the operation would continue,” the district collector said.
