84 Andhra pilgrims to Amarnath safe, two not yet known

Official sources here said that around 84 pilgrims who went on Amarnath Yatra from different parts of Andhra Pradesh are reported to be safe while only two women have not been traced till Sunday afternoon.

Initially, the state government said that five pilgrims had gone missing, but later three were traced and confirmed to be safe.

State government officials contacted several pilgrims and their families here and confirmed that the tourists were safe following the cloudburst and flash floods near the holy cave shrine.

According to data provided by government sources, out of the 20-member team that went from Rajamahendravaram to Amarnath, only two women could not be traced.

A senior official associated with the rescue operation told PTI, “Her husband returned to Srinagar but the women are still missing. They may have been injured or may have reached somewhere else. We are conducting a search operation to trace them.” are driving.” The local revenue divisional officer met the families of both the women in Rajamahendravaram on Sunday and discussed the situation.

A 38-member team from Guntur, a 17-member team from Tadepalligudem, a six-member team from Tirupati and another pilgrims from Vizianagaram were also said to be safe. According to government data, some pilgrims are also reported to be safe from Rajampet in Cuddapah district, but their numbers are not clear.

The state government sent Additional Resident Commissioner, AP Bhawan Himanshu Kaushik to Srinagar to coordinate with the local authorities and ensure the safety of the AP pilgrims, an official release said. The AP government also opened a dedicated helpline number 1902 to provide necessary assistance to the pilgrims of the state.

A helpline was also set up at AP Bhawan in New Delhi for any assistance to the pilgrims and their relatives, the release said.
