New Delhi: In the last 24 hours, India recorded 8,306 new cases of Covid-19 while 8,834 people recovered from the infection. There have been 211 deaths in the country in the last 24 hours. The active caseload was 98,416 which was the lowest in the last 552 days.

In an official press release issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, it was told that the recovery rate was 98.35 percent. The daily positivity rate was 0.94 per cent which is less than 2 per cent for the last 63 days. While the weekly positivity rate was 0.78 percent which was less than 1 percent.

According to the official website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 8,86,263 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

24,55,911 vaccine doses were vaccinated till 8:00 am on 6 December, making the cumulative figure 1,27,93,09,669.

The new ‘Omicron’ version of the coronavirus has raised alarm bells all over the world. So far, 21 cases of Kovid-19 with Omicron variant have been reported in India. Nine new cases were reported from Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur, while seven more cases were reported in Maharashtra on Sunday.

The first two cases of Omicron variant in India were found in Karnataka while the third and fourth cases were reported from Jamnagar and Mumbai in Gujarat respectively. The fifth case came to light in Delhi.

It was reported that people who tested positive for COVID-19 with the Omicron variant had either returned from African countries or had come in contact with people who had returned from African countries.
