Actress Neena Gupta In ’83’, Kapil Dev’s mother is playing the role of Rajkumari Lal Nikhanj. Ironically, the father of his daughter, Sir Viv Richards, was Kapil’s biggest player in the 1983 World Cup. The film has another surprise: Kapil Dev makes a cameo appearance as a member of the audience who picks up the ball after a shot is fired. Ranveer singh, who plays the role of a cricket legend in the film. The character played by Kapil says: “Nice shot, Kapil!”
The Indian cricket team, led by Kapil Dev, went down against the mighty West Indies in the 1983 World Cup final. Neena Gupta dated West Indies great Sir Viv, who was a member of the 1983 Caribbean team led by Sir Clive Lloyd, which was then considered unstoppable, after winning the first two World Cups.
In the final, Sir Viv scored 33 runs in 28 balls with a strike rate of 117.85 before he was dramatically caught by Kapil off Madan Lal. Earlier, when India were playing, it proved costly with the ball – he conceded eight runs in one and only one over.
Neena Gupta and Sir Viv began dating in the late 1980s and their daughter, Masaba Gupta, is one of India’s leading fashion designers and also an actor who made her debut with the Netflix original, ‘Masaba Masaba’.
Neena completed her part of the shooting of the film in December 2019.
